ANDREW GUNTHER, Ph.D.

Climate Disruption: A Scientific Call for Action

Learn the basics, physical principles and observations. What does climate change mean for the country in general and the Bay Area in particular?

Gunther received his Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from the University of California at Berkeley and has worked at the intersec on of environmental science and policy for nearly 40 years. He currently serves as the Execu ve Coordinator of the Bay Area Ecosystems Climate Change Consor um, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Concerned Scien sts, and a scien c advisor to the Alliance for Climate Educa on and The Regenera on Project.

I am trying to help move our na onal conversa on away from defend- ing/denying science and to the important debate about taking ac on.
I also try to empower people to speak con dently about the basics of climate science (if you feel con dent about this already, you can gain some talking points for “disbelieving” family members at Thanksgiving).

The advent of the Paris Accord, the United States Climate Alliance (states that have decided to honor the Paris Accord) and the incredible drop in costs for renewable and e cient energy technologies is very exci ng. Indeed, I seek to energize, not depress, my audience.
