| FreeGood Friday – the morning of April 2nd Virtual Event – Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab
You are invited to the annual Good Friday service of worship and witness to be focussed on the Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab. Most folks will participate virtually rather than in person.
WHEN: April 2, 2021, 8:00 AM.
There will be opening music starting at 7:45 am.
WHERE: Point your web browser to www.epicalc.org
That website will lead you to the virtual event.
The Good Friday witness at the Livermore Lab began in 1983, and has continued annually. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 event was mostly virtual, and this will apply also for 2021.
This year we will celebrate the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This is the treaty which we celebrated January 22 when it reached enough ratifications to enter into force. The latest count is 54 “states parties” (nations that have ratified or acceded).
Our preacher will be Rev. Michael Yoshii. Betsy Rose and Benjamin Mertz will give us music. Carla De Sola brings to us liturgical dance. Marylia Kelley will tell us what the lab is doing to design nuclear weapons. Jackie Cabasso will speak on how we can work to make the prohibition of nuclear weapons the world-wide standard and how to hold our country to that standard. Our preacher, our scripture, our dance, our music and our prayers will raise in our hearts and spirits the dedication to indeed beat our swords into plowshares.
