Dear Interfaith Council of Contra Costa,
My name is María Velázquez, and I am a graduate researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I am reaching out to see if you would consider sharing a flyer with faith communities, or families you may work with, in Concord and East County. The flyer is an invitation for parents/guardians/caregivers to share about their experiences in their communities, schools, and homes. Interviews are confidential and Parent/Guardians/Caregivers interested would be compensated for their time (see flyer attached & linked here).
This project seeks to support local advocacy for housing justice in East and Central Contra Costa. It is informed by my family experiences with housing in the East Bay and the work I do to support for housing justice in the East Bay through my volunteer work –from working on tenant right hotlines, engaging in translation work for tenant right organizations, to managing a tenant oral history project. Moreover, the purpose of this study is to better understandeducation and opportunity within changing communities in the metropolitan Bay Area through the experiences of parents, their youth, amongst other civic and actors. Findings from this study seek to inform policy, particularly towardspursuing more democratic and just schools, communities, and metropolitan regions.
I’d be happy to talk more about the project or answer any questions you may have. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Maria Velazquez
