BREAKING THE CHAIN: Ending the School-to-Prison Pipeline

An education and dialog series sponsored by St. Joan of Arc Parish to broaden our understanding of and insights into childhood experiences that
lead to incarcerated futures

Panel 1: Wednesday, November 10, 6:30-8:00pm

Examining Risk and Resilience: Developmental Predictors of Justice System Involvement

DID YOU KNOW?

  • 100,000 children are expelled from US schools each year!
  • An expelled child is 8 times more likely to be incarcerated!
  • The US makes up 5% of the world’s population, yet holds 25% of the world’s prisoners!

We have seen a 400% increase in the US prison population over the last 40 years!

Our Criminal Justice System must include solutions that address root causes for entering into the Criminal Justice System and for the prolonged participation and recycling within the system, itself. But where do we begin?

Come join us as we embark upon a 3- part series focused on a critical aspect of childhood experiences that lead to incarcerated futures: public health.

Panel 1: Examining Risk and Resilience” will explore why public health is critical to changing our justice system. Learn how the very things that determine health, even at the earliest age, are the same things that lead to

involvement in our justice system. Join us to learn from a panel of experts with clinical and research experience in infant health, neuroscience, trauma-informed pediatrics in justice setting and intneral medicine leadership in detention health services.
